Product Description

When things get scary, it’s nice to know that Odd is on our side.

The one and only Odd Thomas is back—in his second edgy and enthralling graphic-novel adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling suspense master Dean Koontz.

It’s Halloween in Pico Mundo, California, and there’s a whiff of something wicked in the autumn air. While the town prepares for its annual festivities, young fry cook Odd Thomas can’t shake the feeling that make-believe goblins and ghouls aren’t the only things on the prowl. And he should know, since he can see what others cannot: the spirits of the restless dead. But even his frequent visitor, the specter of Elvis Presley, can’t seem to point Odd in the right direction.
With the help of his gun-toting girlfriend, Stormy, Odd is out to uncover the terrible truth. Is something sinister afoot in the remote barn guarded by devilish masked men? Has All Hallows Eve mischief taken a malevolent turn? Or is the pleading ghost of a trick-or-treater a frightening omen of doom?

The further adventures, or maybe... the previous adventures of Odd Thomas told in a compact, Manga-esque, graphic novel style. These books are a must for both new and old fans of Koontz''s titular hero, Odd Thomas.

In Odd is On Our Side, we see what came before the initial novel Odd Thomas, and follow Odd and Stormy on their exploits in and around Pico Mundo, California. Look for appearances by the regulars you''ve come to know and love over the course of the Odd Thomas novels.

New to the franchise? Don''t worry! This and the other graphic novels will get you up to date with the characters without revealing too much of what is to come in the novels. Odd Is On Our Side is a great one sitting reading for younger audiences as well as a must for the die hard Odd Thomas fan as well as the newbie. Check them out! Your collection is incomplete without them!

Dean Koontz published five humorous novels about the rather strange but very likable Odd Thomas, who says he got his name Odd when his mother misspelled Todd. But it is descriptive because Odd is incredibly wise, respectful, and unusual; he uses the title "sir" and "ma''am" even to people who are intent on killing him in the most unspeakable manner. His name is also descriptive because, unlike other people, he sees dead men and women, such as Elvis Presley. The dead can gesture to Odd and frequently do so, but although some come to him seeking his help in obtaining justice for them, they are unable to speak. Koontz has also joined with others in writing three graphic novels about Odd Thomas. This is the second of the three and was published in 2010. He wrote this novel with Fred Van Lente, and Queenie Chan did the illustrations.

The plot in this volume focuses on a premonition that Odd has that something awful will happen during his town''s Halloween celebration. The ghost of Elvis Presley tries to help Odd and gestures wildly, but since he can''t speak, Odd has difficulty discovering what will occur and who is involved.

While I am a fan of Dean Koontz books and enjoy the humor in his tales about Odd, I don''t think that this story has much substance and the humor is very weak. However, children may enjoy the book and may be stimulated to read his Odd Thomas non-graphic novels, which are a delight.

Good Story, Awkward Formatting

Even if graphic novels are not your thing...

You are either into graphic novels or not, and some readers may not be. But for me, it was great to have these ‘early’ stories, with Stormy, etc. You can read them in like… 10 minutes… but very glad he created them with the artists.

Easy to get caught up with and relate to because he''s just an average, down-to-earth fellow that happens to have been born with a "gift". The illustrator came close to the images we held in our heads when reading the first novels about Odd--they didn''t disappoint as we feared they would. When I opened it up on my Kindle I kept paging forward trying to find where the book started. It never did. So, instead of trying to read the thing, I deleted it. If you like comic books and have VERY good eyes it might be ok but the pictures and print was so small in the little bubble boxes that was the dialog it was very difficult to read.

It''s a comic

The description states that it is a ''graphic novek'' (sic) - presumably this is supposed to indicate that it''s a comic. Don''t waste your money.
